MADIDI NATIONAL PARK – BOLVIA
(P2) MAPAJO PROGRAM
2 DAYS / 1 NIGHT

Day 1: Rurrenabaque – Madidi National Park

08:30: Departure by motorboat from Rurrenabaque to the Madidi National Park. The trip upstream via the Beniand Tuichi rivers takes around 3 hours and is a great opportunity to observe wildlife and the impressive landscape of the Amazon, such as the Bala Canyon.

12:30: Arrival at Madidi Jungle Ecolodge and accommodation in traditional jungle cabins.

13:00: Lunch and time to relax.

14:30: After lunch we will go on a long walk following the Wabu Trail. We will visit a salt lick, locally know as “Cullpana”, which is a strategic area in the rainforest where various animals gather to obtain important mineral salts from the substrata. This trail offers the possibility to observe white-lipped peccary, red howler monkey, brown capuchin monkey, toucan, guans, and many other bird species. Return to the ecolodge along the Tuichi Trail.

19:30: Traditional dinner at the lodge prepared by our professional cooks. After dinner, there is the opportunity to take a night hike into the jungle to observe the nocturnal wildlife. This provides the chance to see many species of insect, amphibian and reptile, such us tarantulas and frogs. You can listen to the jungle symphony produced by an uncountable variety of wildlife.

Day 2: Madidi National Park – Rurrenabaque

07:30: Breakfast at the ecolodge. After breakfast, we set out on a 3-hour guided walk along the Mapajo and Matapalo Trails. Along these trails, you will see the Giant Kapok Tree (Ceiba Pentandra), Almendrillo Tree and the Strangler Fig Tree (Ficus sp). Your guide will provide an in-depth explanation of the diverse species of plants and how they are used for medicinal and practical purposes. It is a great opportunity to understand and appreciate the Amazon ecosystems, take in the pristine natural environment and observing different types of wildlife. Return to the ecolodge along the Dati Trail.

12:30: Lunch and time to get back.

13:30: Return to Rurrenabaque. Optional: On the way back, there is the option to visit Caquiahuara, where there is a nesting wall used by the red and green macaws and other species of parrot. Birdwatching can be done anytime of year, but is most frequent from May to December. The return trip by boat takes 2 hours.

16:00 Arrival in Rurrenabaque. Transfer to your hotel, bus station or airport.
